(Thank you, Neil Diamond, for writing a song worthy of a National Anthem)

Pledge of Allegiance

On September 11, 2001, our country was dealt a devastating blow of catastophic proportions. One which Americans have never seen, never dreamed of and hope to never see again. I am so proud of the way our President handled the attack and shudder to think what would have happened had not a man of his calibre been in the Oval Office that day.

I know this probably is not the correct venue to stand on my soapbox, but as they say "my site, my right". I am DAMNED proud to be an American, and would have it no other way. I am of Dutch, English, Scots and Irish heritage -- and there's some Native American thrown in there too -- but the bottom line is I AM AN AMERICAN.

My father was a Naval Captain, my son an Army soldier, my daughter an Air Force Master Sergeant, my husband an Army soldier and I, myself, am a Commander in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, so military roots run deep in my veins.

My President, my Commander-in-Chief, is doing an awesome job in and out of the Oval Office. The one thing he has that the previous resident lacked is RESPECT of his military, in addition to respect of leaders around the world. Whatever your political persuasions, one must admit that a better job could have not been done by ANYONE.

This is STILL the greatest place on earth to be. With all her warts and flaws, America stands tall, ashamed of nothing because there is nothing to be ashamed or guilty of. My personal life has been turned upside down since the attacks -- have not worked in my chosen profession since then -- but the fact is, I have the FREEDOM to do as I choose. I don't have to wear a veil over my head, I can drive a car, I can go out on the streets without a male escort if I choose, and I can VOTE.

There are many patriotic songs, and I wish I could have put them all on this site, because they are all so good, some of them bringing goosebumps to my skin. I hope Neil doesn't mind me trying to promote his "Coming to America" as one worthy of a National Anthem.

Americans are not arrogant, we are confident -- there's a difference. And as I step off my soapbox, remember two things:

God STILL blesses America
and the fight for freedom will NEVER die!
